ASU officers have been discussing commencing negotiations for a new EBA with Jetstar management. The current EBA expires for re-negotiation purposes 30 September 2017.
What is the first step?
Notice of Employee Representational Rights (NERR).
The Fair Work Act requires Jetstar to provide all employees who are to be covered by, or, proposed to be covered by your EBA with a letter outlining your rights. We are in receipt of the letter that Jetstar sent you on 9 August.
Negotiators of EBAs are called “bargaining representatives”.
Members of the ASU do not have to do anything about the appointment of a bargaining representative – the ASU is automatically your bargaining representative and the ASU Negotiating Team will be made up of ASU delegates and officials who will conduct the negotiations for ASU members.
You do not need to do anything. The NERR is a legal procedural notice advising people of their rights.
EBA Negotiations and your input
The ASU always ensures that all members get an opportunity to have their say on the issues that are important to you.
We provided all members with a survey to complete earlier this year.
The ASU has been holding meetings with members to present the ASU claim. Some of those meetings are still taking place.
Initial EBA Meeting
The first EBA meeting is scheduled for 8th September in Melbourne. This meeting will follow the next JQ QCM on 7th September 2017.
The ASU is hoping to complete this negotiation as effectively and efficiently as possible. Members can assist the process by supporting each other, talking to their ASU union officials and making sure that non-members are encouraged to join the ASU.
