The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) is currently seeking the views of ASU members to gauge the effectiveness of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) in ensuring employers comply with their Superannuation Guarantee obligation payments to employees..
There are many instances when employers fail to make regular payments, and put members’ entitlements at risk. For example, if compliance isn’t effectively monitored and enforced by the ATO, employers who default (don’t make payments to employees and eventually may go bankrupt) may not be discovered before it is too late to recover members’ unpaid earnings.
The ASU is calling case studies from members’ examples where there has been:
- Successes or failures of the ATO when targeting employers who do not comply with their super obligations.
- An impact to you in respect to compliance or non-compliance or super obligations.
This audit will assist in ensuring your superannuation entitlements are protected, and that the union is better equipped to assist other members with super-related issues in the future.
If you have any questions or if you would like to contribute to the audit, please contact Terry O’Loughlin on toloughlin@asupsvic.org or 03 9342 3309.
