Armaguard announce redundancies
Today the ASU received an email from Armaguard Linfox advising that the business was announcing redundancies amongst several staff. This was the first time this issue had been raised and quite frankly came as a shock, it was only yesterday that we were advised that Armaguard was about to transition from the current 4 day working week to a 4.5 day working week as the business situation had improved. No mention of redundancies was made at all.
After speaking to some of our members today, we were advised that several individuals had been asked to attend separate meetings early this morning where they were basically told that they had been selected to be made redundant.
Our Union has written to Linfox demanding that everything be placed on hold until the business complies with its EBA obligations which includes proper consultation with the employees and the Union. The Union has also placed the matter into dispute and has formally lodged a dispute application with the Fair Work Commission late this afternoon.
If you are a member of the ASU and have been advised that your job is likely to be made redundant, or, if you have received a meeting invite or been given anything in writing about a possible redundancy, ITS IMPORTANT YOU CALL OUR OFFICE AND LET US KNOW ASAP.
Management have ignored their obligations to follow the correct process contained in the EBA when it comes to announcing redundancies. We cannot and will not let them get away with it. This is not the first time Management have chosen to act outside of their EBA obligations and they need to be held to account.
With the very little information provided there does not appear to be any logic to this announcement when only yesterday they were telling us that things we’re improving.
In addition, Armaguard Linfox is being paid the JobKeeper payment for its employees which is designed to keep people employed. Jobkeeper is being paid at least until September so there’s no obvious reason as to why people would be made redundant now.
Please contact the ASU on 9342 3300 if you have been targeted for a redundancy and we encourage members to not attend any meetings on their own and not agree to or sign anything that management may put before you.
