Our Union Delegates and Organisers had a national hook-up with senior dnata Catering executives late yesterday to progress the EOI’s and redundancy matters that have been ongoing now for way to long. The latest progress and updates are as follows:.
Group 1 – Operational Staff (ASU covered positions)
Dnata Catering is ready to go ahead with voluntary redundancies (VR) within the Group 1 category of employees. Dnata have told us that they will accept (Nationally) 33 out of 46 expressions of interest. In Melbourne they will be looking at accepting 15 EOI’s for VR’s. They will be contacting staff this week to advise whether or not their VR EOI has been successful. We understand that most employees will leave the business between 1 and 15 December. Employees will be paid their full redundancy pay, accrued entitlements and payment in lieu of notice according to the EBA. Your payment in lieu of notice will be based on your average hours for the period 1 April 2019 to 30 March 2020.
Unfortunately, Dnata says that there are likely to be 6 compulsory redundancies (CR) at a National level with 1 of those coming from Melbourne. We think this is pretty disappointing given the number of people putting their hands up for a VR. We have asked Dnata Catering to pause any CRS until the consultation process for Group 1 VRs, and they have agreed. We will be looking for opportunities for job swaps and other mitigation strategies to avoid any CRs. Dnata Catering have refused to provide us with the details of the compulsory redundancies until they are ready to notify affected employees.
Group 2 – Support Staff (ASU covered positions)
Dnata Catering have committed to starting the EOI process for Group 2 employees. Individual consultation meetings will take place in the coming weeks. At the meeting you will be asked to express interest in redundancy or mitigation options such as part-time work or SWLOP. You will be able to bring a support person to the meeting, so contact your organiser if you want a union representative to attend. We have also asked Dnata to take accurate notes of member’s preferences
WFP – (ASU covered positions)
Workforce Planning EOI’s are still on hold until such time as the new Manager completes his review on existing department setups and resource requirements for the business. We have asked that the WFP Manager attend the next meeting which has been scheduled for the week of December 7th.
We will continue to keep members informed and updated on progress and recommend that you forward this email to your work colleagues at Dnata who aren’t ASU members and encourage them to join by calling (03) 9342 3300 or online at www.asuvic.org
