Dnata Catering to cut up to 1000 Jobs across the country
You may be aware of an announcement made yesterday by Dnata Catering confirming that it will be making approximately 1000 of its Catering employees redundant on a National level across various ports. In Melbourne alone, the numbers to be made redundant are approximately 310 Catering employees.
The Covid crisis and its ongoing impact on the industry compounded by the Federal Government’s ongoing & stubborn refusal to allow Dnata staff to access JobKeeper is the simple reason for such a difficult decision to now have been made.
For many Dnata Catering staff this will be a bitter sweet outcome where they would have no doubt preferred to have remained a Dnata Catering employee however for the reasons above this option could not be maintained & many will now be able to access a Redundancy and move on.
Some of our members from within other parts of the Dnata group (Pax /Cargo & Ramp) have already called and emailed your ASU Organiser, Victor Jose, asking if Dnata will be making any announcements for areas outside of Catering? Victor has already made contact with Senior Dnata Management seeking some clarification on this question and has asked that Dnata provide some written comms to its employees at Melbourne Airport as a matter of priority.
Our Union will keep members update on any feedback from Senior Dnata Management and in the meantime, members with any queries or questions should make contact with your ASU organiser (Victor Jose) at vjose@asupsvic.org.
