Finally! We have detail from Helloworld on QBT redundancies!
After months of waiting, Helloworld has finally offered some detail about the number of redundancies it is willing to offer to Qantas employees at QBT.
At the consultation meeting on 29 October, Qantas informed the ASU that Helloworld has decided that the following roles are no longer needed:
- Brisbane: 10 Domestic Consultants and 3 International Consultants
· Canberra: 1 International Consultant
· Melbourne: 4 International Consultants and 7 After Hours Consultants
We will meet with Qantas on Wednesday next week to discuss timelines and selection processes. We will do all we can to ensure that any selection process is fair and transparent. We have also asked Qantas to consider opportunities for job swaps, if affected employees want to remain with the business.
Qantas have confirmed that individual EOI’s will not be shared with Helloworld management. Helloworld will be informed of the overall, anonymous results of the EOI process, but will not be given any individual employees personal preferences. We will do all we can to finalise this process quickly, so that affected members can get on with their lives.
Special Leave Without Pay
Many members have told us that they have difficulty finding alternative work because Helloworld can’t guarantee they won’t be recalled to work.
As a Qantas employee, you are entitled to apply to Qantas for special leave without pay (SWLOP). This is a special arrangement to give stood down employees certainty that they can find another job without the risk they will be recalled back to Qantas at short notice. Qantas has confirmed they will consider SWLOP applications for members at QBT like any other Qantas employee.
We know this is a very stressful time, do not hesitate to seek assistance if you need it. Organisations like Lifeline 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 are available if needed.
And remember your ASU is with you every step of the way. If you have any further questions please contact your local ASU Organiser, Victor Jose at vjose@asupsvic.org.
