Fix JobKeeper
I work for Dnata at Melbourne Airport.
I work with some of the most amazingly hard-working staff, who are the backbone to a smooth handing of travellers from check-in to boarding and from disembarkation to baggage collection.
Recently, over 5,500 of my colleagues were excluded from accessing JobKeeper payments because the Morrison Government altered eligibility rules for the scheme, to remove companies who are owned by another government.
For many of my colleagues this means they have been stood down for several months without access to JobKeeper. Having a limited income is taking its toll on me and my colleagues.
We are Australian workers, union members and we all pay our taxes to contribute to our nation, and for no fault of our own, the Government changed the criteria leaving many without pay while we are stood down. We were told previously that we would be eligible for JobKeeper payments as our employer was an Australian for tax purposes. But with the stroke of a pen, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg pulled the rug out from under us and left 5500 of us without any support.
We have been stood down due to the COVID-19 crisis and are currently struggling to get by without pay.
In all of this adversity, we have been campaigning as union members to change the rules of JobKeeper eligibility and it’s working. Tomorrow, the Australian Senate is going to decide whether the Government should pay JobKeeper to me and over 5500 Dnata and international airline workers.
However, there are just 2 votes standing in our way – Senator Pauline Hanson and Senator Malcolm Roberts from Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party.
Can you back us up and send an urgent email to Senators Hanson and Roberts and tell them we need their votes now?

COVID-19 may make us be physically distant, but that won’t stop us standing up together to demand our politicians support workers, it’s what we do as union members.
Each email you send will go a long way, and we look forward to seeing you next time you pass through Melbourne Airport!
By your side,
Maria Scafi
