Industrial Officer
Australian Services Union Victorian Private Sector Branch
As part of a small team, you will be supporting members to resolve queries and issues and explaining their entitlements and rights to them.
Our support model is based around empowering our members by providing advice and information, wherever possible.
KEY DUTIES:
The core of your duties is focused on individual member support.
- Respond promptly to member and member representative’s enquiries, in person, online and over the telephone.
- Provide authoritative advice both oral and in writing in relation to a wide range of issues. These include but are not limited to, workplace issues, pay issues, workers compensation, workplace health and safety and discrimination issues.
- Assist in supporting our organising team as directed.
- Accurate record keeping.
- Attend meetings as a support person and/or advocate.
- Undertaking a range of tasks including drafting, research, appearing in courts or tribunals.
- Drafting and maintaining Fact sheets and other member publications.
- Providing reports and submissions as required including for Executive and Branch as directed.
- Participate in wider Union based campaigns and activities.
- Working effectively with a range of union, employer and government stakeholders.
- Other duties as required.
WHAT WILL YOU BRING?
Ideally, you will have the following skills and attributes:
- Previous industrial and/or legal experience preferred but not required
- A passion for industrial relations and employment law
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise empathy and compassion to clients
- Experience in running files end to end
- Ability to exercise judgement and resolve problems quickly
- A personal understanding of and affinity for the trade union movement
SALARY:
Salary range of $90,000-$120,000 depending on level of experience plus 16% superannuation
