The Australian Services Union Victoria, Private Sector Branch has welcomed an agreement that has been reached between the State Government, Jetstar and Avalon Airport that ensures the airline will continue to operate services from the airport for the next 10 years.
The new 10 year agreement will see the number of daily flights operating from Melbourne’s second busiest airport, increasing from five to seven in a move that provides long-term certainty for staff and passengers.
Ingrid Stitt, ASU Branch Secretary said “Today’s agreement is a positive and important move that provides stability for our members over the next 10 years.
“We welcome this key development which will provide strong support for jobs and much-needed certainty for the airport, for its staff and for its passengers.
“Jetstar has provided excellent services at Avalon and it’s great to see that it will not just continue to do so but will actually grow its operation. This means that Victorians will continue to receive the quality service this airport is known for.
“All Victorians stands to benefit from today’s announcement, and in particular this agreement provides certainty and security for the Geelong region, which has already been hit hard by high unemployment levels.
“Avalon Airport will have even more routes operating and this will give passengers more options.. This is great news for the greater Geelong community.
“This agreement is a win for jobs and a win for passengers and a very positive move for Victoria,” said Ms Stitt.
