Last night the ASU held a whole of RACV Meeting to discuss some major developments at RACV.
The ASU discussed with employees an MOU between the Union and RACV which we have embarked on instead of re-negotiating the Enterprise Agreements when they expired mid last year.
The MOU recognises the tumultuous period we are in, and sees bargaining delayed until March 2021 for the RAC, Member-line and Retail.
This MOU includes commitments from the company and the ASU to ensure there was a bipartisan approach to ensure there were no avoidable job losses across the business, the creation of a working from home policy and a special paid leave policy to ensure staff were able to work through the Covid period in a safe and secure way.
RACV has indicated to the ASU their intention to merge the Member-line and Retail Enterprise Agreements into a single agreement. Given the similarities between these work areas, and the fact that retail employees are increasingly working as telephony staff, we believe this is a sensible development.
This gives the ASU and its members a really exciting opportunity; to bargain across the whole of the business at the same time through two Enterprise Agreements, RAC and Member-line/Retail.
This is the ASU’s opportunity to push for a broad improvement to the working conditions of employees right across RACV. But it means we have to get much more organised between now and March.
Working from home creates many challenges for the ASU and for organising, that is why we are relying on every single member to reach out and share information with colleagues and ensure their co-workers become Union members. Last night, ASU members committed to ensuring they shared this very bulletin with every single member of their team. Let’s make sure that occurs by the end of the week.
The ASU is going to need members to volunteer to help develop a log of claims for each area of the business. If you are interested in helping to draft the Unions claims for improved pay and conditions at RACV, please make sure you contact your Organiser at jweber@asupsvic.org.
This is our opportunity to fight for better, fairer more secure jobs. Let’s not miss out. Make sure your co-workers join the ASU today at www.asuvic.org.
