Recent JobKeeper payments made by Qantas
Last week you should have received a JobKeeper payment which appeared to be significantly less than previous fortnightly JobKeeper amounts you may have received over recent months. The Federal Government in its decision to extend the JobKeeper payments until March next year has cut back on the amounts to be paid to those eligible for JobKeeper and this change has already been communicated to our members after the Federal Government announcement was made.
There are now 2 Tiers of JobKeeper payments under the Federal Government extension to the JobKeeper scheme.
The reason for last week’s JobKeeper payments being lesser is due to the fact that the reduced $ amounts as decided by the Federal Government effectively kicked in on the 28th September and as Qantas have been paying the JK payments in advance, the now reduced JobKeeper payment under the extended JobKeeper scheme was made for the following fortnight as from the 28th September. The fact that Qantas did not provide a payslip to staff to explain why and how the JobKeeper payment was made created a significant amount of angst and confusion amongst everyone and even Qantas didn’t have an explanation for several days.
We understand that Qantas will be circulating a JobKeeper email including an updated JobKeeper Q & A to all employees shortly and may have done so by the time you receive this ASU update. Please check your emails and if you have any queries or questions in relation to the JobKeeper scheme, please contact me at vjose@asupsvic.org
