Recent JobKeeper payments made by Virgin
Last week you will have received a new rate of JobKeeper payments but many members have reported a range of issues and significant confusion with the implementation. It is extremely disappointing that Virgin is still finalising individual eligibility despite knowing of the changes for several weeks. At a time when people can afford it least, we say it’s not good enough that people may be missing out on money they are owed.
New JobKeeper Overview
The Federal Government in its decision to extend the JobKeeper payments until March next year has cut back on the amounts to be paid to those eligible for JobKeeper. There are now 2 Tiers of JobKeeper payments under the Federal Government extension to the JobKeeper scheme:
28 September 2020 to 3 January 2021:
- $1,200 per fortnight for employees who, in the four weeks of pay periods before 1 March 2020 or 1 July 2020, were working for 80 hours or more over this four-week period (on average); and
- $750 per fortnight for other employees
4 January 2021 to 28 March 2021
- $1,000 per fortnight for employees who, in the four weeks of pay periods before 1 March 2020 or 1 July 2020, were working for 80 hours or more over this four-week period (on average); and
- $650 per fortnight for other employees
The 80 hours or more thresholds include actual hours worked, and any hours for which the employee received paid leave, including annual, long service, sick, carers and other forms of paid leave, or paid absence for public holidays. What should I do if my payment seems incorrect?
If you have checked your gross (pre-tax) amount and still believe it is incorrect you should immediately contact payroll at payroll.queries@virginaustralia.com (for queries relating to your pay or payslip) or jobkeeper@virginaustralia.com (for JobKeeper eligibility or nomination queries).
What happens if I’ve been underpaid?
Virgin has confirmed that if anyone has incorrectly been paid the lower tier for this pay period when they should have received the higher amount they will be back paid by 31 October 2020.
They say that they are still doing analysis on which tier some people should be paid and will be in a position to confirm this to all team members by 19 October.
