The ASU recently met with Serco Representatives to raise our concerns regarding the pay and classification of PAL employees.
The ASU raised the concerns shared with us by Union members that the workload and work type that employees are asked to perform could not be fairly Classified as Level 1 on the Contract Call Centre Award.
Serco defended their position that employees were appropriately classified as Level 1, but has agreed to review the classifications given the Covid-19 based work that employees are asked to perform.
The ASU has made clear to Serco our expectation that every employee be given the opportunity to give feedback about the reality of the role performed.
The ASU will not accept an in house review that fails to engage employees and listen to their concerns.
Whilst this is a good sign, we need to keep the pressure on Serco. Even if Serco did agree that employees were under classified, we would need to continue our fight for appropriate training, support and rostering levels, as well as the potential for back pay.
