The ASU has recently met with your management to raise concerns over your rosters.
We have highlighted that it is not acceptable that you only receive your rosters a week in advance and that there appears to be a level of favouritism.
Current rosters not good enough
The ASU has clearly put on the table with Marc Somerset that we expect there to be a review of your rosters with the outcome being that rosters are given to you much further in advance, that they are consistent, fair and with reasonable day on day off patterns.
Rosters also need to deliver safe work patterns with minimal short turn arounds’ and reasonable breaks between shifts. They also need to ensure that the work load is reasonably covered and provides enough staff for any work or tasks to be completed within the required time safely and with access to breaks.
It’s time to get it right!
For far too long now we have heard reports of people being rostered with very short breaks between shifts, split days off where they rarely get access to two days off in a row and rostered on shifts where there is no hope of being given a break let alone being offered one.
We have also received complaints that there are a protected few that seem to always get the best rosters, the best day on day off patterns, the weekends off and we say the best way to address this perception is to ensure that there is a full review of the rosters with the outcome being;
- Fairness & equity
- Transparency
- Equal access to weekends off
- Better access to 2 day breaks
- Access to meal breaks
- Realistic work loads
- Decent day on day off patterns
- Safety
Employees should expect no less than the above and the ASU will continue to push for this outcome.
What’s next.
Marc Somerset has assured us that he will review the rosters and come back to us with how he intends to rectify the issues that we have raised.
Stay tuned and we will get back to you and hold members meetings as soon as we receive the information that we have requested.
It’s time to get on board
If you are not yet a member of the ASU it’s time to get on board with the rest of your workmates and join. We have consistently showed that we are here for the long haul and have rectified many issues for our members.
You can join online and view our website at www.asuvic.org or complete the membership form on the rear of this bulletin and return to the ASU. It’s never been more important to be a member than it is now.
