Virgin Ground Crew and GCC staff have overwhelmingly endorsed the ASU negotiated agreement – with 75% of those voting, voting in favour of the new agreement. This is a fantastic result particularly as over 77% of the staff covered by the agreement cast a vote.
A big thank you must go to our hard working ASU National Negotiating Team who put in many extra hours at meetings and in their own time to make sure ASU member got the best deal possible.
Alison Barker, Chris Cruse, Roxanne Martinez, Sipola Hatcher and Belinda Weblin have doggedly pursued your claims and their persistence and dedication has paid off with a great agreement in time for Christmas. They could not have done this without the support of ASU members who stuck together and voted down the first agreement determined to get a better deal. That solidarity has paid off in spades.
What is next?
The agreement still needs to be approved by the Fair Work Commission and we will work with Virgin to process the necessary paper work as soon as possible. There are a number of changes in the new agreement so feel free to talk to your local ASU organiser or NNT member or ASU delegate if you have queries.
We want to make this agreement work and so will be putting in a lot of effort into the various consultative mechanisms in the agreement in 2014. If you want to be involved contact your local ASU organiser.
