Letter to the Premier

When elected you promised us that you would be a Premier for everyone

7 August 2024

On Monday, Premier Chris Minns announced that the State Government expected all public servants to return to their office as their place of work, rather than working from home.

ASU Secretary Angus McFarland has written to the Premier, asking him to meet with the ASU and confirm that ASU members’ conditions, including the right to work from home, are safe.

Read the letter here.

Premier Minns explained anyone working for the government will be expected to return to the office to bring CBD back to its pre-covid presence.

We have been inundated with calls from our members, who are worried about what this means for them.

ASU members have worked hard to develop flexible working arrangements, including working from home.

For workers with children or other caring responsibilities, and for those who travel for a very long time on public transport, working from home has meant a better work life balance.

We also know that for those people working from home, being away from the distractions in the office means it is easier to think, plan and work.

Making policy through the media without consultation can only mean one thing: this is bad policy, and not in the interest of working people.

The ASU will be working around the clock to protect and advance our members’ rights at Sydney Water, Sydney Trains, NSW TrainLink, TfNSW and Sydney Metro but we need your help.

Spread the message to let your colleagues that it is the ASU who are leading the movement to protect your rights.

Every single working right has been won by union members – if you’re not a member, join the union today.

I love being a member of the ASU for the support and strength it gives us for our work conditions and our rights at work.
